There were a couple of trades made in independent baseball on Tuesday. Both transactions sent players to the Atlantic League.

The Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball traded left-handed pitcher Joe Testa to the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League in exchange for a player to be named later.

Testa, 28, was originally signed by the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted costless agent back in 2008. He was traded to the Washington Nationals along with catcher Wilson Ramos in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt Capps and cash considerations on July 29, 2010. In five total seasons playing in affiliated ball, Testa posted a 3.36 ERA in 265 innings pitched. He struck out 286 batters while walking 145 to go along with an 18-11 record in that span.

After being released by the Washington Nationals organization in January of 2013, Testa headed to independent baseball. In his two seasons in independent baseball, he has gone 1-9 with a 5.40 ERA in 105 innings pitched. He also had 96 strikeouts to go along with 60 walks over that time.

Also, the New Jersey Jackels of the Can-Am League traded right-handed pitcher Salvador Sanchez to the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League in exchange for a player to be named later.

Sanchez, 28, was originally signed by the Chicago White Sox as an international costless agent in back 2004. He spent the first seven seasons of his professional baseball career as an outfielder. He hit .262/.310/.406 while launching 55 homers and driving in 329 RBI in just over 2,200 plate appearances over those seven seasons. He became a pitcher in 2011. In three seasons as a pitcher, Sanchez posted a 2.88 ERA in 75 innings of work out of the bullpen. In the 51 games he pitched over those three seasons, he struck out 67 batters and surrendered 27 walks.

After being released by the Chicago White Sox organization this past March, Sanchez signed with the New Jersey Jackels of the Can-Am League. In 42 games appearances this season, he posted a 2.40 ERA in 41 1/3 innings of work out of the bullpen while notching 25 saves.
