The Arizona Diamondbacks have purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Kyle Anderson from the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

Anderson, 24, played affiliated ball at the Low-A ball level in the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 2012 and 2013. In 13 games (eight starts), he posted a 4.81 ERA in 48 2/3 innings pitched in his 2012 season. He also went 4-2 punched out 25 batters that season. The following season, Anderson pitched in 15 games - all of them starts - and posted a 2.71 ERA in 83 innings. He struck out 58 batters and walked just 12.

After being granted costless agency by the Blue Jays following the 2013 season, Anderson signed with the Goldeyes. This year - while playing for the Goldeyes - he made eight appearances (seven starts) and went 3-2 with an impressive 1.64 ERA. He also struck out 29 batters while issuing just nine walks in 49 1/3 innings pitched. Anderson pitched six strong innings and surrendered just one run on Wednesday. He had seven strikeouts, allowed five hits and issued just one walk in what ended up being his last start with Winnipeg. Despite his impressive pitching performance, Anderson was slapped with a no-decision and the Goldeyes lost the game by a score of 2-1.

Anderson will be temporarily assigned to the Arizona League Diamondbacks - the Rookie ball affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks - before moving up to a higher level of affiliated ball in the Diamondbacks' organization.
