The Detroit Tigers have moved right-handed pitcher Anibal Sanchez from the starting rotation to the bullpen, as announced by manager Brad Ausmus

Ausmus said, "He could work his way back into the rotation, but nothing is promised."

There is not a set decision on who will take the rotation spot of Sanchez. Matt Boyd will toss his second big league game of the season on Thursday. Detroit will have to decide what role Shane Greene will take in the future after recovering from a stint on the disabled list.

The 32-year-old has a 6.67 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP across 56.2 innings of work this season. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Angels shocked Sanchez for six runs in three innings, which was the nail in the coffin for his movement to the bullpen.

The Tigers placed right-handed pitcher Warwick Saupold on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain and purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Bobby Parnell from Triple-A Toledo, the team announced. To make room for Parnell on the 40-man roster, Detroit designated right-hander Jose Valdez for assignment.
