As the Baltimore Orioles continue to show interest in free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, contract terms would not be any higher than a year or two after the signing of Chris Davis to a seven-year deal earlier in the day, according to a report from Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun on Saturday afternoon.

As of Thursday night, interest is said to have increased to a point they would like to bring the 30 year old in to an organization that has serious playoff aspirations.

With several other clubs in on him, the Orioles are said to be one of the top suitors as MASNSports.com reports that a contract offer has been made.

As noted by Encina, any money left should rightfully be invested towards the starting rotation, as they could use a boost following the loss of LHP Wei-Yen Chen, but the offense also needs an upgrade and he would be the ideal fit to play alongside center fielder Adam Jones and likely right fielder Mark Trumbo.

The news comes a day following the re-signing of first baseman Chris Davis to a seven-year, $161 million deal, which was agreed upon on Friday night.

The club was previously in on both Denard Span who signed with the San Francisco Giants and Alex Gordon who re-signed with the Kansas City Royals

A deal for Cespedes in Baltimore has been reported to be somewhere around $18 million with the length of the deal unknown, however, a short-term contract is the initial idea.

Multiple reports from earlier in the offseason indicated that Cespedes was seeking a six-year deal.

Cespedes spent the 2015 season with the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets, as he was traded in a non-waiver deadline deal which sent two pitching prospects the other way. In a season where he had one of his best performances yet, he hit .291/.328/.542 alongside a career-high 35 home runs and 105 RBI's.

Cespedes was one of the leading contributors that got the Mets to the World Series, as he slashed .287/.337/.604 with 14 homers and 54 RBIs in 57 games with New York.

Jim Bowden of ESPN reported on Sunday morning that a deal could be completed within the next few days, confirming the report that strong interest was being shown.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network followed that up by saying that at this point in time, a short-term contract is no longer likely as the market for Cespedes is indeed active with lots of interest being drawn.
