The Chicago Cubs looked to continue their hot streak today as they faced the Cleveland Indians in what was a makeup game that was postponed back in June. Were they able to accomplish such a feat?

The Cubs came into the game with a firm grasp on the second Wild Card spot. With still over a month left to play, they look to hold this consistency into October.

The Cleveland Indians were sending in their best pitcher in Corey Kluber to try and stop what would be a five-game winning streak by the Chicago Cubs. The Chicago Cubs responded with their staff ace in Jon Lester who is coming off an outing against the Detroit Tigers where he last 2.2 innings where he gave up seven runs.

The two pitchers were on top of their game from the get-go, with the only highlights until the seventh inning being Anthony Rizzo picking up a check me swing in fair territory to provoke a inning ending double play. Rizzo followed the tremendous defensive play by blasting a triple in the seventh that scored Chris Coghlan.

The Cleveland Indians came up with fireworks in the ninth to avoid a loss though as three consecutive batters got on base by the way of a hit-by-pitch, a swinging bunt and a single. The single that ended the string was produced by Carlos Santana and it tied the game scoring Abraham Almonte.

After two straight outs though by Coghlan and Rizzo, Kris Bryant came up and hit a deep blast to right field on the first pitch, giving the Cubs a 2-1 victory via a walk-off home run. This is Bryant's third home run in the last two games. It's not only their fifth-straight win but their 21st victory in the last 26 games.

"It was a great pitcher's duel," said Kris Bryant after the game. "I thought Jon had enough to pull it out, but sometimes you've got to give credit to the other team. They came through, and I knew I was going to get an at-bat there, and I made the most of it."

"[Lester] had everything going on," Cubs managaer Joe Maddon said post game. "I felt really good about him in the ninth inning. We had to pitch that well. Their guy was outstanding. Our guy was outstanding."

Cubs starting shortstop Addison Russell was given the day off today to be with his finacee, who is expecting their first child.
