The New York Yankees have beaten the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 thanks to a stellar pitching performance by Masahiro Tanaka at the Rogers Center in game two of this three-game set. With the win, Masahiro Tanaka improves to 9-5 on the season. While Marco Estrada falls to 10-7. Also with the win, the Yankees move to 1.5 games over the Blue Jays in first place in the AL East.

Carlos Beltran, fresh off his big game winning homer last night, came up in the 1st inning and took Estrada deep to make it a 1-0 game.

In the 5th inning the Blue Jays broke through when Josh Donaldson hit a sac fly to left field, scoring Ryan Goins to make it 1-1.

Mark Teixeira put the Yankees back ahead, this time for good, in the 6th with a solo shot that landed in the second tier to make it 2-1.

Two innings later Teixeira came up again, this time singling home Chris Young to make it 3-1. After that play Greg Bird would single between the shortstop and the third basemen for his first career MLB hit.

In the 9th inning Jacoby Ellsbury singled to center, which scored John Ryan Murphy to make it 4-1.

Masahiro Tanaka pitched his fourth career complete game this afternoon and was interviewed afterwards on the field. Through his translator in response to the question, what was working that allowed him to get through all 9, he said, “I wasn’t thinking too much, I was just thinking one pitch at a time, one batter at a time.”

This was a Yankees pitchers' first complete game at Rogers Center against the Blue Jays since 1998 when Andy Petitte outdueled Roger Clemens for the no hitter.

Yankees' skipper Joe Girardi talked about how Tanaka’s stellar performance helped the bullpen which had been used a lot recently, “ell, we still feel really good about the other guys but it really gives everybody a day off in the pen. A couple guys had to get up but they weren’t used in the game and you know it rests them and it’s important and it’s just an unbelievable job by Masahiro.”

John Gibbons talked about Tanaka and said, “he was great, I mean when he was on he was hitting his spots both sides and you know, nice little split, dotting that fastball, yeah that’s why they brought, that’s why they signed him, brought him over to do it, like we picked up (David) Price, that’s what those guys do.”

Tomorrow afternoon the Yankees try to pull off the sweep over the Jays with Luis Severino on the mound. The Jays are going with Drew Hutchinson trying to prevent the sweep and get back in the win column.
