Josh Donaldson took advantage of a balk call as he lined a walk-off single into left field to drive home the winning run in the Toronto Blue Jays' 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals (61-41) Friday night at the Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays (53-51) capped off an amazing week off the field with the exciting win.

With two outs and Troy Tulowitzki on second, Donaldson lined Franklin Morales's 94-mph 3-2 fastball into left field, bringing in Tulowitzki with the winning run.

As clutch as Donaldson's hit was, the inning's key play occurred just moments before. "Tulo," one of the Blue Jays' big trade-deadline acquisitions, singled off Morales with two outs. Morales then balked as he threw to first to keep Tulo close (video). The left-handed Morales crossed the plane of the mound with his right leg and then stepped toward home, but he threw to first rather than making his pitch. Tulowitzki was only a step or two off the bag at the time, and he has not even attempted to steal a base all season.

Down 6-3 as the bottom of the seventh started, Toronto rallied to tie the game and force the extra innings. Tulowitzki (single) and Donaldson (double) each had RBI hits. Justin Smoak then brought home the tying run with a ground ball double play (no RBI credited).

The seventh-inning rally marked the second time Toronto came back from a three-run deficit. In the third, Donaldson doubled home two, and in the fourth, Kevin Pillar singled home a run to make it a 3-3 game.

Donaldson was 3 for 5 with four RBI on the night (video), and Toronto welcomed David Price into the dugout. Price became a Blue Jay Thursday in what turned into a big week of additions for the team.

Kansas City, who also added some key players this week, scored three in the first on Kendrys Morales's RBI double and new Royal Ben Zobrist's two-run single. They built their 6-3 lead with two runs in the sixth (Eric Hosmer RBI single, Morales sacrifice fly) and one in the seventh (Alcides Escobar RBI single).

Liam Hendricks (W: 3-0, 2.58 ERA) worked the top of the 11th to benefit from Donaldson's heroics. Starter Drew Hutchinson pitched five innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one. Six relievers combined for six innings of two-run ball.

Morales (L: 3-1, 2.27) pitched 1/3 of an inning, giving up two runs on two hits. Newly-acquired Royals starter Johnny Cueto lasted six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in giving his new team a quality start. He walked two and struck out seven. Ryan Madson allowed three runs in the seventh without recording an out.

The series between the two teams who made the most significant moves this week continues Saturday at 1:07 p.m. EDT. Yordano Ventura (5-7, 4.86) pitches for Kansas City while the Blue Jays counter with Mark Buehrle (11-5, 3.29).
