During and after his first career start last week, New York Mets’ young lefty pitcher Steven Matz, told team officials, and team trainers that he "felt something” during their game against the Cincinnati Reds. It was not news last week, but it became a big story on Thursday as Matz was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The original diagnosis is that Matz has a “partial tear” in his lat, which can be read about more in depth in Troy Jones' article. But is that all the injury is, or will it be more?

Over the last few years, including this season, the Mets have been known to handle injuries poorly. There have been numerous times that the team has had a deadline for a player to return to the lineup, but those players wouldn’t come back for a month or so after. So what is really going on there?

Lying wouldn’t be the correct word to use, but confusing could work. This has been going on for some time now and Matz could be the next victim of a false diagnosis. This picture was posted on Twitter yesterday by Jared Diamond (@JaredDiamond), and it just shows that the staff is either getting each diagnosis wrong, or they are just simply not giving out the truth.
