Since the Detroit Tigers came to town Monday night to take on the Seattle Mariners, Safeco Field has turned into a bandbox. In game one of the series there were five home runs, and game two on Tuesday night followed suit as five long balls were hit out of Safeco, which is known as a pitcher friendly park.

Those long balls hurt the Mariners on Monday, but Tuesday was a different story as they had the upper hand come the end of the ballgame.

The Tigers started with lefty Kyle Ryan on the hill, but it seemed to be more of a bullpen game for Detroit as Ryan only lasted 2.2 innings throwing just 41 pitches. Ryan didn't have his good stuff tonight as he gave up five runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking one.

It was in the second inning when the scoring opened up as the Tigers cracked the scoreboard first behind back-to-back home runs by Nick Castellanos, a two-run shot, and Marc Krauss who followed with a solo shot. That had Detroit up early with a 3-0 lead.

It didn't take the Mariners too long to answer as they finally got the bats going in the third inning. After loading the bases with a walk and two singles, Austin Jackson decided to clear the bases with a grand slam into the bullpen in left field to take the lead 4-3. Franklin Gutierrez wanted in on the action as he went back-to-back with a solo dinger just like the Tigers in the second inning, and that had the Mariners up 5-3 and it would chase Ryan from the game.

Detroit wasn't going away as Alex Avila tied the game up in the fourth with a two-run shot to left to make it a 5-5 game. The lead changed hands once again as Robinson Cano put the Mariners in the lead with a scorching solo shot to center in the fifth giving Seattle a 6-5 advantage.

Taijuan Walker toed the slab for Seattle and came in with a 6-1 record and a 1.68 ERA in his last seven starts. The Tigers didn't think too fondly of that and roughed him up a bit as Walker went six innings giving up five runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking one. The walk he gave up to Alex Avila was Walker's first walk since the fifth inning of his start on June 10th versus Cleveland.

Yoenis Cespedes is in the Final Vote for the All Star game and he showed why he should get that vote as he tied the game up at six in the eighth inning with a solo shot off of Fernando Rodney ,which eventually sent the game to extras.

In the top of the 11th, Mariners reliever Charlie Furbush got out of a jam when he had runners on at first and second with no outs. The Mariners bullpen really stepped up in the last few innings as Carson Smith also turned in a dazzling performance with five strikeouts in two innings of work. Mark Lowe also struck out the side in the seventh.

Seattle took that momentum from Furbush in the top of the 11th to the bottom half of the inning as Robinson Cano singled to right field with one out scoring Jackson from second which sent the Mariners faithful home happy with a walkoff win.

With the series tied, the rubber match will take place Wednesday afternoon at Safeco Field with J.A. Happ getting the start for the Mariners, who will face off against Anibal Sanchez for Detroit.
