Cameron Maybin and Freddie Freeman led the way for the Atlanta Braves, helping them secure a comeback victory and avoid a three-game losing streak.

Shelby Miller got the start for Atlanta, lasting six strong innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Miller finished the game with a line of eight hits, three earned runs, and four strikeouts, pushing his great ERA up to 2.02 on the season.

Jacob deGrom pitched well for the New York Mets. He gave up no more runs after allowing a solo home run to Freeman in the first inning. deGrom lasted seven whole innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out nine. However, the Mets' bullpen wouldn't be able to hold on in the end.

The Mets entered the seventh inning down 1-0. With one out, Juan Lagares pinch hit for deGrom and struck a single to center. Curtis Granderson followed with a double, and then Travis d'Arnaud gave the Mets the lead with a 2-run single, much to the excitement of a packed Citi Field crowd. After advancing to second base on a wild pitch, d'Arnaud would score on an RBI double by Lucas Duda.

The Braves nearly got some runs back in the eighth as Maybin led off the inning against lefty Jack Leathersich with a double and a stolen base. In the next at-bat, Freeman looped a fly ball into shallow left field near the side wall of Citi Field. Darrell Ceciliani caught it and fired a beautiful throw to home plate to get Maybin for the double play. Later in the inning, Bobby Parnell replaced Leathersich to make his first Major League relief appearance in over a year. Parnell, who had Tommy John surgery 14 months ago, induced A.J. Pierzynski to ground out with runners at the corners, ending the threat.

With closer Jeurys Familia unavailable after the birth of his son, Hansel Robles had to step up to earn the save for the Mets. With two on and one out, Robles induced a double-play ball, but shortstop Wilmer Flores couldn't quite handle it, getting just one out on the play. Maybin would then hit an RBI single, and after lefty Alex Torres replaced Robles, Freeman would tie the game with an RBI single up the middle that Flores probably should have fielded.

The Mets went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth against Jim Johnson, and neither team had a base runner in the tenth inning.

In the top of the eleventh, Maybin struck again, driving a two-run single off of Carlos Torres to center to put the Braves up 5-3. In the next half inning, the first two Mets hitters hit singles, but pinch hitter John Mayberry, Jr. lined out into an unlucky double play courtesy of shortstop Andrelton Simmons.

The Mets entered the game 1.5 games above the Washington Nationals in the division, but their lead is now at 1/2 a game. The Braves are only 2.5 games behind the Mets at 30-32, and they continue to grind out wins after trading plenty of players away in the offseason.

The Mets and Braves finish their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 p.m. EDT. Mike Foltynewicz (3-2, 4.72 ERA) faces off against Dillon Gee (0-3, 4.50 ERA).
