The Texas Rangers scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning, seven of them off CC Sabathia, on route to a 15-4 drubbing of the New York Yankees Saturday afternoon. Shin-Soo Choo both started and ended the scoring in the Rangers' big inning by driving home Delino DeShields with a single for the first run and smacking a three-run home run (7) to give the Rangers a 10-0 lead.

Choo was 2 for 5 on the day with both hits coming in the third. He also drove in four runs and scored three. In between Choo's hits were an RBI single from Prince Fielder plus Choo's scoring on an error on the same play, a two-run single from Elvis Andrus, an RBI ground-rule double from Carlos Corporan, and a sacrifice fly from Jake Smolinski

Texas used little ball to score three more in the top of the sixth, and for good measure, Fielder added a solo home run (8) in the seventh.

New York got solo home runs from Carlos Beltran (3) in the sixth and Didi Gregorius (2) in the seventh. They tacked on two more in the ninth thanks to John Ryan Murphy's RBI triple and a meaningless RBI groundout from Slade Heathcott, who is playing for the disabled Jacoby Ellsbury. This time, though, the Yankees would not make a valiant attempt at a comeback as they did in Friday night's 10-9 loss.

Nick Martinez (W: 4-0, 1.96 ERA) enjoyed the offensive outburst as he pitched seven very solid innings. He allowed two runs on five hits, including the two solo home runs, while walking two and fanning five.

Sabathia (L: 2-6, 5.47), who is still trying to regain any semblance of his healthy self from the past, looked solid for two innings but fell apart in the third. He lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. His one walk opened the third, and his four strikeouts all came in the first two innings.

The Yankees have now lost five straight games and nine out of their last 10 to fall to two games behind the Tampa Bay Rays, pending the outcome of their Saturday game.

The Rangers go for the sweep Sunday night at 8:05 p.m. EDT. Texas will send Yovani Gallardo (3-6, 4.26) to the mound while the Yankees try to end their losing streak with Chris Capuano (0-1, 12.00) on the hill. Capuano has pitched only three innings this season (May 17) and allowed four earned runs.
