Jimmy Rollins spent the first 15 years of his stellar career in Philadelphia. On Monday, Rollins made the latest chapter in his career memorable.

Rollins slugged a go-ahead three run home run, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres, 6-3, on opening day at Dodger Stadium.

San Diego jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Wil Myers was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After Myers stole second, new Padres star Matt Kemp delivered with an RBI single off of reigning Cy Young and MVP winner Clayton Kershaw.

Los Angeles struck for two runs in the fourth inning, to take a 2-1 lead. Adrian Gonzalez homered off of new Padres ace to tie the score and Carl Crawford had an RBI double to put the boys in blue ahead.

In the top of the fifth, Matt Kemp made his former team pay once again, delivering a two-run double to give San Diego a 3-2 lead.  Kemp received a warm ovation in his first at-bat, and tormented Dodger pitching all day, as he drove in all three runs for San Diego.

James Shields pitched well in his six innings of work for San Diego, as he allowed just two earned runs in his six innings of work, striking out eight.

The Dodgers tied the game in the seventh, as Adrian Gonzalez had a two-out double and new Dodgers second baseman Howie Kendrick drove him with an RBI double of his own.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Dodgers went ahead for good. Joc Pederson led off the inning with a walk. After a pop-up, Andre Either reached on an error by Padres reliever Shawn Kelley. Jimmy Rollins put together an eight pitch at-bat, finally slamming a Shawn Kelley fastball into the stands for his first home run as a Dodger.

Chris Hatcher put the Padres down in the ninth inning to preserve the win for Los Angeles. The two teams will be back in action tomorrow, as Tyson Ross will start for San Diego. The Dodgers will counter with Zack Grienke.
