The Los Angeles Dodgers have now made 10 trades in the 25 day reign of General Manager Andrew Friedman. This one comes as quite a shock, the Dodgers have moved newly acquired Andrew Heaney to the Los Angeles Angels for Howie Kendrick.

Howie Kendrick is a 31-year-old second baseman in which the Dodgers are in need of since they have traded away speedster Dee Gordon. Kendrick is only under contract for just one more season at the price of $9.5 million, it just leads to endless questions and an ultimately head scratching move. It had seemed that the Dodgers made a steal trade with the Marlins earlier in the day giving away Dee Gordon and Dan Haren for Andrew Heaney and 3 other promising prospects.

Andrew Heaney is 23 years old and doesn’t even have a full season of MLB experience yet which makes him cheap for at least another 6 seasons. Drafted in the 2012 draft (9th overall) by the Marlins it seemed as if Heaney and Jose Fernandez were going to be an intimidating 1-2 punch for years to come. That all changed when the Marlins called up Heaney and he under-performed big time. He posted a 5.83 ERA and giving up 19 runs in just five starts. Despite the rough start to his big league career, Heaney is a talented pitcher with a bright future ahead of him.

This trade helps both teams as the Angels get young starting pitching depth and the Dodgers get a nice upgrade at second base. That being said, it is easy to question whether or not the Dodgers made the right move if Kendrick decides to leave after this season concludes.
