First reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Philadelphia Phillies' LHP Cole Hamels and outfielder Marlon Byrd have been claimed after being put on revocable trade waivers.

The teams that claimed Hamels and Byrd have yet to be announced. Since the Phillies put them on revocable waivers, they can pull back either player if they cannot workout a trade with whichever team claimed them.

On the other hand, Phillies' closer Jonathan Papelbon has cleared trade waivers and the Phillies are now able to trade him to any team that they wish. Papelbon is the highest paid relief pitcher in baseball, and that is likely a huge reason why he was not claimed. The Phillies will now try to find a suitor for Papelbon, but that seems unlikely with his large contract.

Hamels and Byrd are both players who could make a big difference for contending teams down the stretch. Whichever team(s) claimed them would be wise to make a strong offer to acquire either player.
