The Arizona Diamondbacks managed to salvage a win against the streaking Atlanta Braves by taking the series finale, 3-1, behind a great outing from Wade Miley. Miley pitched 6 2/3 innings of five hit ball, allowing just one earned run while striking out eight. The only run Atlanta scored on Miley and the D-backs was on Chris Johnson's RBI single in the fourth inning.

Alex Wood came out on the short end of the pitchers duel, pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs on just three hits and three walks. Paul Goldschmidt jacked a two run homer in the third inning, his 16th of the season.

The D-backs added an insurance run in the ninth on a Nick Evans RBI double.

Arizona comes back home Monday to start a three game series against the Miami Marlins, as game one features a pitching matchup of Chase Anderson and Tom Koehler.

Worth Noting:

  • The D-backs have made two trades in as many days, dealing reliever Joe Thatcher and outfielder Tony Campana to the Angels on Saturday, for outfielder Zach Borenstien and pitcher Joey Krehbiel, both minor league prospects. Eury De La Rosa was recalled in place of Thatcher. Then Brandon McCarthy was sent to the Yankees in return for Vidal Nuno on Sunday.
  • Diamondbacks first basemen Paul Goldschmidt was voted as the starting first basemen for the National League All-Star Team.
