In his last five starts, the Padres have scored exactly one run for Tyson Ross. That lone run came Friday night against Arizona, a sacrifice fly from Ross himself. Ross pitched seven solid innings, but the offense failed to provide any help as the Padres lost 2-1.

The Arizona Diamondbacks scored the only runs they would need in the fourth inning off of the aforementioned Ross. Diamondbacks left fielder David Peralta delivered with a two-run single up the middle. Other than that fourth inning, Arizona had little luck against the Padres right-hander.

San Diego could only muster just one run, when Tyson Ross drove in Cameron Maybin with a sacrifice fly. The Padres had an opportunity to score in the sixth inning, but with the infield drawn in, Will Venable hit a ground ball to second and Aaron Hill threw home, which resulted in Chase Headley being tagged out in a rundown play. During the rundown, Venable attempted to go to second, but was tagged out in a rundown of his own.

Brandon McCarthy dominated San Diego, as he threw just 19 balls in his seven innings of work. He did not walk a single batter on the evening. Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 19th save.
