Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez is still searching for the right leadoff hitter for this Atlanta Braves' anemic lineup. Jason Heyward held that spot in the order for most of the season and did a solid job but Tommy La Stella didn’t fare too well in the short period of time hitting a measly 2-20. So tonight Gonzalez tried another Braves hitter to take over that spot. So far so good, as Braves centerfielder B.J. Upton hit his 7th home run of the season batting in the leadoff spot. This writer realizes that a leadoff hitter only bats leadoff to start the game, but you can’t help but be a little encouraged by the home run Upton hit.

The elder Upton had his moment in the sun for a short period of time as younger brother Justin Upton quickly responded the next inning with a solo blast of his own to extend the Braves lead to 3-1. The Upton brothers made history, tying a major league record with 4 games in which each of them had home runs.

This was a much needed homerun for Justin as the younger Upton has been in one of his long droughts. In the month of June, Justin Upton has a slash line of .180/.219/.246 while hitting only 1 homerun and driving in 5 runs. After missing a couple games last week with dizziness, this homerun might help him get back on track.

It wasn’t a pitcher’s duel between Aaron Harang and Scott Feldman, but Harang was able to limit the damage better than his counterpart. Harang was able to go 6 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs, while striking out 5. The Astros right hander Scott Feldman had a similar box score going 6 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 runs, and striking out 5. The difference between Harang and Feldman was the amount of damage given up. Harang gave up only 1 extra base hit while Feldman gave up 4. Aside from the George Springer home run, Harang was able to work around singles, while Feldman gave up 2 home runs, a double, and a triple.

After a blown save in Washington, Craig Kimbrel was able to bounce back and grab his 22nd save of the season against the Houston Astros. Kimbrel was able to work around a 1-out error and strike out the Astros young slugger George Springer swinging on a 98MPH fastball to end the game.

Aside from the home runs early in the game it was a pretty smooth matchup. Neither team busted out offensively putting the other team on their heels, but the Braves benefited from the Crawford boxes in left field to bring home a 3-2 victory.
