In this week's Major League Baseball Power Rankings the Oakland Athletics remain the best team in baseball and the top team in the rankings, ahead of the new number two in the Milwaukee Brewers. The Kansas City Royals fell out of the top 10 while the Seattle Mariners moved up to the tenth spot.
At the top: The Oakland Athletics stay in the top spot for the second consecutive week. The Athletics had a 5-2 week, taking two out of three against the Texas Rangers and three out of four against the Boston Red Sox. The Athletics are the majors top run scoring team (389) and left handed starter Scott Kazmir leads the American League with a 2.08 ERA. The Athletics currently have a five game lead over the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West.
Biggest rise: The Cincinnati Reds jumped five spots in this week's rankings as they land at number 14. The Reds went 4-2 over the previous week, taking two out of three against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays. The Reds offense picked up steam during the week, scoring 44 runs. Third baseman Todd Frazier currently ranks third in home runs (17) and center fielder Billy Hamilton is second in stolen bases (31).in the National League. Right hander Alfredo Simon is tied for the league lead in wins (10) and right hander Johnny Cueto leads the league in ERA (1.86).
Worst week: The Chicago White Sox went 2-4 over the last week to settle into last place in the American League Central and land in the 24th spot in the rankings. The week began promising for the White Sox as they swept a two game interleague contest at home against the San Francisco Giants but then went on the road to Minnesota and were swept in a four game series against the Twins. The White Sox currently rank 27th in the majors in ERA (4.39).
At the bottom: The Arizona Diamondbacks have once again fallen into the 30th spot in the rankings. The Diamondbacks went 2-5 over the previous week. They dropped three out of four to the Milwaukee Brewers and two out of three to the San Francisco Giants. Arizona's pitching staff is tied for 27th in the majors in wins (32) and 28th in ERA (4.45).
