The Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to tie the game, but were unable to rally a second time after Tommy Medica hit a game winning home run in the eighth inning to give the San Diego Padres the 4-3 win.

Martin Prado finally hit his first home run of the season in the second inning off Eric Stults, that put the D-backs up 1-0.

Arizona had a sloppy defensive inning in the third and the Padres took full advantage as they scored three runs in the inning. Chris Denorfia, Chase Headley and Tommy Medica all hit RBI singles to take a 3-1 lead. The three runs were the only runs Wade Miley gave up on his career high 11 strikeout night.

Miguel Montero hit a RBI double in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 3-2. Eric Stults finished the sixth and called it a night, allowing two earned runs on five hits and four walks.

The D-backs tied the game in the seventh inning on a RBI single from Gerardo Parra.

The rubber match Wednesday night will feature a pitching matchup of Chase Anderson and Tim Stauffer. Anderson, who's last start that lasted just three inning due to rain was wiped, will look to pitch well again and actually receive credit for it.

Worth Noting:

  • San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal left the game in the seventh inning after being blatantly struck with Paul Goldschmidt's bat mid swing, on the back of his glove. Catchers interference was called, rewarding Goldschmidt first base.
