The Arizona Diamondbacks were let off the hook by Daniel Murphy in a 2-1 win over the New York Mets, despite a absolute gem from rookie pitcher Rafael Montero. The win sealed the D-backs a much needed series win after being swept at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals the previous series.

Rafael Montero only allowed two hits through his six innings of dominant pitching, one being Chris Owings' solo homer in the first inning. The home run was the only run Montero gave up, while striking out a whopping ten batters.

Bronson Arroyo had a good outing as well, escaping trouble throughout his six innings of work by rolling up four double plays. The Mets got to Arroyo in the first inning by hitting three straight weak singles, David Wright's scored Juan Lagares.

Arizona has struggled all year when it comes to getting clutch hits and that problem still occurred during their six game road trip. Luckily for the Diamondbacks, the Mets defense gave them a clutch error in the ninth inning. With A.J. Pollock on third base, Chris Owings grounded out to David Wright. Wright threw to second for the simple force out but Daniel Murphy dropped the ball, allowing Pollock to score the game winning run.

Game two of the doubleheader was played approximately 30 minutes after game one went final.
