The Arizona Diamondbacks followed up their best game of the season --a 18-7 victory over the Dodgers on Saturday-- with a 5-3 series clinching win against the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday afternoon. The series win was the D-backs' first at home this season and their fourth out the previous five.

The Dodgers came out swinging, as Hanley Ramirez blasted a deep home run to left field off Josh Collmenter in the first inning. The hot Arizona offense tied the ballgame at one in the second inning. Cody Ross lined a double to right field, that was the result of a misread by Yasiel Puig, and was able to score on a Hanley Ramirez throwing error on a Cliff Pennington ground ball. Adrian Gonzalez answered for L.A. by hitting a two run home run in the third. The D-backs went on to score in the next three innings against Dan Haren.

Gerardo Parra singled and advanced to second a wild pitch to then be brought home on a Chris Owings RBI single in the third inning. Cody Ross homered on a moon shot off the center field wall in the fourth. The final two D-back runs came from a Eric Chavez two run homer in the fifth inning. Chavez came in as a defensive replacement for Martin Prado, who left the game due to blurred vision in his left eye. The Diamondbacks finally got to Haren this season, as he pitched six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) off ten hits.

Josh Collmenter pitched just good enough by going 5.1 innings, while giving up three earned runs on four hits and two walks. The bullpen was great behind him, despite a few tense situations. Oliver Perez escaped a jam in the sixth and Brad Ziegler loaded the bases to escape without allowing a run. Addison Reed recorded his twelfth save of the season after striking out two of the four batters he faced.

The D-backs get a travel day off on Monday before starting a series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday at Busch Stadium. A promising pitching matchup is scheduled, with Bronson Arroyo and Adam Wainwright taking the mound. Both pitchers are looking to continue great pitching in the month of May. As for Los Angeles, they head to New York to face New York Met prospect pitcher Rafael Montero. Josh Beckett takes the mound for the Dodgers.

Worth Noting:

  • Dodger right fielder Yasiel Puig ended his hitting streak at 16 games after going 0-3 Sunday.
  • The Arizona Diamondbacks celebrated the 10th anniversary of Randy Johnson's perfect game with a pre game ceremony and commemorative t-shirts.
