Bronson Arroyo went the distance to out duel Stephen Strasburg and lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 3-1 win over the Washington Nationals Tuesday night.

Arroyo gave up a run early in the second inning off a Ian Desmond RBI triple, but scattered five hits over the next seven innings. The win was his third in a row and the complete game was the first for the D-backs this season. Bronson struck out more batters --7-- than Stephen Strasburg did --6-- in the ballgame.

Strasburg pitched fairly well in a losing effort, as the Diamondbacks game plan to attack him early in the count to avoid his devastating curveball, paid off. He pitched eight quality innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Miguel Montero hit a RBI single that scored Paul Goldschmidt in the fourth. Then Paul Goldschmidt hit a two run double in the fifth inning off a hanging Strasburg curveball.

The rubber match Wednesday afternoon will feature two pitchers who will be looking to regroup after abysmal starts their last time out. Nationals starter Doug Fister and D-backs starter Brandon McCarthy both look to improve upon seven run outings.
