Wily Peralta has been one of the best pitchers in the NL this season and he was dominant once again tonight for the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brew Crew continued their spectacular start to the season and kept the Cincinnati Reds’ offense in check all game long. Most of this can be accredited to Peralta though, who threw right scoreless innings on the way to a 2-0 win at the Great American Ball Park.

There wasn’t much offense tonight and it turned out to be Peralta who knocked in both runs of the night. A two-run double from the right-hander scored both Lyle Overbay and Jean Segura to give Milwaukee a two-run lead during the fifth inning. The big story, however, was the pitching on both teams.

Mike Leake was very good for the Reds. Leake also threw eight innings, struck out five and only yielded two runs. Peralta was sharp with his scoreless eight frames, also fanning seven and walking only two.

With a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, Francisco Rodriguez took care of the save situation. Milwaukee’s closer has yet to allow a run this season and he has converted all of his SV opportunities during 2014.

After a strong month, the Brewers can’t be considered a surprise anymore. They have a strong offense and with a pitching staff that has been stellar, they seem to be equipped to make a run at the playoffs this year.
