It was a special day in Chicago as it was the 100th Anniversary of the first game ever played at Wrigley Field. Special jerseys were worn by both the Diamondbacks and the Cubs to replicate that first ever baseball game played at Wrigley between the Chicago Federals and Kansas City Packers. The D-backs would crash the party and spoil the homecoming of many Cub legends, as they came away with a 7-5 victory after exploding for five runs in the top of the ninth inning.

A good pitching matchup turned out to be pretty much one sided. Although Wade Miley didn't pitch terribly, it was clear he didn't have his greatest command while Jeff Samardzija had a great outing. Samardzija pitched 7.1 innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five. The first run he allowed came in the second inning off a Chris Owings RBI groundout, and the second run came in the sixth off a Cody Ross RBI single, his first hit on the season.

As for the D-backs' Wade Miley, he pitched just five innings allowing five runs (three earned) on just four hits. Once again walks were his nemesis as he walked three, but Miley did strike out seven. The Cubs got three across the plate in the fifth inning: one from a throwing error by Paul Goldschmidt, the second from a Jeff Samardzija sacrifice fly, and the third from a Emilio Bonifacio RBI groundout. Chicago would get two more in the sixth off Miley as Justin Ruggiano hit a two run homer, ultimately ending Miley's afternoon.

The Diamondbacks were three outs away from dropping the series as well as losing their fifth game in a row, but they refused to go down on Wednesday. Pedro Strop walked the bases loaded to start the inning and the D-backs finally saw some luck go their way this season. Martin Prado hit a ground ball up the middle that ricocheted off second base and into right field scoring two D-backs, making it a 5-4 game. Strop would strikeout Paul Goldschmidt, and be replaced with James Russell to face the lefty Miguel Montero. Montero would get a huge RBI base hit to tie the game and after another pitching change that brought in Justin Grimm, Aaron Hill would hit a go ahead two run triple to put Arizona up 7-5. Addison Reed closed out his fourth game of the season, and finished off the D-backs' sixth win of the season.

The Diamondbacks and Cubs finish off their four game series on Thursday, as Mike Bolsinger and former D-back Edwin Jackson face off against one another. Arizona is looking to split the series and hopefully construct a winning streak with the momentum they gained from Wednesday's big win.
