The New York Mets, behind a solid pitching performance by Dillon Gee, earned their first series sweep of the season by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2.  Gee was superb and very economical in his seven innings of work, allowing just three hits while striking out three on just 72 pitches.  Gee had a perfect game going into the bottom of the fifth inning when Diamondacks Martin Prado ended it with a two-out double down the third base line.

Picking up where they left off just one night ago, the Mets jumped out to a lead and never looked back.  Anthony Recker who started the game at catcher in place of Travis d'Arnaud, put New York on the board with a solo home run in the second inning.  Dillon Gee would help out his own cause with an RBI groundout in the sixth inning that would prove to be the game winner.

The Mets finish up their road trip by winning four out of their last five and going 6-3 overall.  They are above .500 for the first time this season and will hopefully bring this momentum back with them to Queens, for series against the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, and Miami Marlins.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are reeling having lost six games in a row.  They will be glad to see this homestand in the rearview as they now head out to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers for a three game series then off to Chicago to have the Cubs for four.  The Diamondbacks' starting pitching hasn't been very good and will obviously need to improve if this team has any chance at competing in a crowded National League West.  They are last in just about every pitching category.

A lone brightspot for the Diamondbacks so far this season was their ability to score runs.  That was until their bats were stiffled by the Mets pitching who didn't allow a run in over 17-innings.  Back-to-back home runs by Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the ninth inning in today's game were the only runs they socred since the 8th inning Monday night.

Game Notes

David Wright extended his hit streak to eight games going 2-for-5 with an RBI.  John Lannan was outrighted today to make room for the return of Daisuke Matsuzaka from the Mets Triple-A affilitate Las Vegas 51's.  Matsuzaka was warming up in the bullpen today but didn't see any action.
