The Arizona Diamondbacks were down after the first two batters came to the plate, in Friday afternoon's ballgame, and Colorado never let off the throttle.

The Colorado Rockies had an unforgettable home opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks as they exploded for 12 runs off 17 hits. Just about every Rockie chipped in to the blowout victory, especially outfielders Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez. The two of them combined to go 8-10 with a whopping nine RBI's. Blackmon had a historic day going 6-6 with a two run homer, three doubles, and two singles, coming up a triple shy of the cycle. Gonzalez had a two run triple and a two run moon shot off D-backs' sidearm lefty Joe Thatcher. Outfielder Michael Cuddyer had three hits and a RBI, and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had two hits and a RBI.

It was a dreadful day to be a D-back as they were simply outplayed in every aspect of the game. Rockies starting pitcher Juan Nicasio went seven strong innings silencing the Diamondbacks offense until Mark Trumbo had another "Trumbomb" in the sixth inning, his second in consecutive days. Nicasio only gave up four hits, including the Trumbo homer, while having six strikeouts on the day. The other run the D-backs managed to put on the board came off a Paul Goldschmidt RBI single, that scored Gerardo Parra, increasing his hit streak to 26 games.

Pitching continues to be the menace for Arizona early this season as starting pitcher Randall Delgado had a dreadful outing. The young man gave up ten hits and six earned runs in only four innings of work. The D-backs bullpen has especially been bad in 2014, and stayed that way in Friday's ballgame. Relievers Joe Thatcher, Brad Ziegler, and Oliver Perez combined to relinquish five earned runs to the Rockies offense. The bullpen will need to clean up their act in order for the D-backs to start winning games.

The Diamondbacks are staying positive, and for good reason as they have the whole season still ahead of them. They continue their season Saturday evening against the same Rockies team as Brandon McCarthy will attempt to get the D-backs a much needed win. McCarthy looks to continue to throw the ball well after his opening day start against the Giants, despite the mediocre numbers. His counterpart will be Jorge De La Rosa, who has fared pretty well against the Diamondbacks in his career.
