There are plenty of talented players in baseball; Robinson Cano, Justin Verlander, Mariano Rivera, Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw, Carlos Gonzalez, and Felix Hernandez. But the best player is without a doubt Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera is the reigning AL MVP and he won the Triple Crown last season as well. Cabrera was the first player in baseball to win the Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemski did it in 1967. Many people felt no player would ever win the Triple Crown again, but Cabrera ended that discussion.

Miguel Cabrera started his career with the then Florida Marlins in 2003. In just his rookie year, he helped guide the Marlins to a World Series victory over the Yankees. In the 2007 offseason, the Marlins elected to trade Miguel Cabrera to the Detroit Tigers. All the pieces the Marlins received in the trade never panned out, this will go down as one of the most lop-sided trades in the history of sports. Cabrera signed an 8-year contract worth $152 million with the Tigers. Last season, the Tigers signed Prince Fielder. Cabrera and Fielder are the best 1-2 punch in the middle of the lineup in all of baseball.

Cabrera’s career numbers are ridiculous. Through July 7, 2013, his career numbers are a .321 batting average, 349 home-runs ,1213 RBI, and an on-base percentage of nearly .400. As of July 7, 2013, Cabrera already has 90 RBI on the season. Let me repeat that, 90 RBI. That is an amazing total for July 7th. Cabrera is on pace to have around 170 RBI on the season, absolutely crazy. Cabrera leads baseball in average and RBI. He is only five home-runs behind Chris Davis for the lead in home-runs. It is very possible that Cabrera could win back-to-back Triple Crown Awards.

Something worth considering when looking at Cabrera’s numbers is that he plays half his games during the season at Comerica Park. Comerica Park is one of the biggest ballparks in all of baseball. So that makes Cabrera’s numbers all that more impressive.

Defensively, Cabrera is a good, solid player. His defense doesn’t get the attention it deserves because his offense is so amazing. Throughout his career, Cabrera has flipped-flopped between playing first-base and third-base, which isn’t easy.

Miguel Cabrera is an absolute delight to look and we truly are looking greatness. He has a beautiful approach to the game and a beautiful swing at the plate. When it is all said and done and Cabrera’s career is over, he will go down as one of the best players to ever play baseball. But he is only 30 years old, so Cabrera has plenty of great years left in him.
