As the season unfolds, the Washington Nationals have picked up general manager Mike Rizzo's option for the 2014 season, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. Both sides continue to work on an extension beyond the 2014 season, note that Rizzo's current deal has another club option for 2015.

Mike Rizzo arrived to Washington as an interim general manager in March 2009, and was later hired for the rest of the season. A year later, the 52 year-old agreed to a three year contract which included two addittional years with team options.

Since the begining of the Rizzo era, the Nationals have gone from losing 298 games to winning the National League East division with a MLB-Best 98 wins in the 2012 season. 

The general manager has draft some outstanding players, some of them are Stephan Strasburg and Bryce Harper, while trades that include left-hander Gio Gonzalez, Denard Span and Michael Morse, and signing players like Jayson Werth, Rafael Soriano, Adam LaRoche and others which led to his succes in 2012 and definatley will bring more succes for years to come.
