Victory in the previous match
The victory in the previous match was significant for the Chadian team, but the race is still wide open. As they are playing with an advantage, there is no need to expose themselves unnecessarily, allowing them to adopt a more cautious stance on the pitch. Overall, the team's strategy is expected to focus on marking and exploiting the spaces left by their opponents to increase their lead. Qualification for the next stage will depend directly on the team's performance on the pitch.
Comparation
This is a stronger team when they play at home, as in their last 30 games they have 2 wins, 1 draw and 12 defeats as visitors, compared to 4 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats at home. Mauritius have won 2 and drawn 1 of their last 3 home games in all competitions.
Mauritius were beaten 1-0 in their first match, but are still in the fight for qualification. Although it won't be an easy task, it's crucial that the team impose themselves and play with more determination if they are to have a chance of winning. Combining a solid defense with an efficient attack can make the difference. Therefore, it's essential to see this match as a final, demanding the best of yourself during the ninety minutes in order to advance.
This is a stronger team when they play at home, as in their last 30 games they have 1 win, 3 draws and 11 defeats as visitors, compared to 6 wins, 2 draws and 7 defeats at home. Defensive solidity has not been their strong point, as they have conceded goals in 3 of their last 4 games.
Home factor
Mauritius and Chad face each other in a second-leg match in this phase of the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers (Preliminary Phase), after Chad won the first leg 1-0 at home. The home factor could play an important role in this game, as the two teams have significant differences in their home and away results.
Chad at least a draw
Mauritius must attack their opponents on this day in order to win. The visitors want at least a draw, but they shouldn't have it easy. This is likely to be a hectic game with good chances of scoring.
Mauritius x Chad
The Dodos lost 1-0 to Chad last week, with Marius Mouandilmadji scoring the winner in the 93rd minute for Les Sao. Ranked 181st in the world, Chad won for the first time since 2023. Given their small stature, they don't play many matches, but they beat Mauritius on Friday in a real shocker.
Kevin Nicaise's side are one draw away from reaching the next round of qualifying, as Chad aim to make their AFCON debut next year. Mauritius, meanwhile, are trying to end a 50-year wait for a second AFCON appearance, but have a lot of work to do to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Prediction
Mauritius - Chad Prediction - Under 2.5 goals
The teams played out a fairly even contest in the first leg. However, Mauritius and Chad should repeat that balance in the second leg, and it shouldn't be a high-scoring encounter.
Chad
Chad - Negative streak halted
Chad, on the other hand, were on a 16-game winless streak. However, in the first leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, they managed to beat Mauritius 1-0.
On the last FIFA date, Chad played two matches in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, but the team was beaten by Mali and Madagascar respectively.
Mauritius
Mauritius - Need to turn the tables
Mauritius did not perform well on the last FIFA day. The team played two matches in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, but were beaten by Cameroon and drew against Angola.
However, in the first leg of the preliminary round for the Africa Cup of Nations, Mauritius came from behind against Chad, but they still have all the chances of overturning the deficit to qualify.

Kévin Nicaise
"We lacked a bit in finishing. But what I do remember is that we created a lot of chances. We were solid defensively. In the first half the match was more even. In the second half, we had the upper hand. I think that at the start of the match the boys were a bit stressed about what was at stake. It's quite a young group, not all of them are experienced compared to Mauritius. But overall we're satisfied."
preliminary CAF Africa Cup of Nations
Following the successful conclusion of the 34th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the preliminary draw for the next edition of the competition, which will take place in Morocco, was officially held at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday, February 20.
A total of 52 nations will be involved in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifiers.
For the preliminary phase of the qualifiers, a total of eight (8) nations with the lowest ranking according to the FIFA Ranking will compete in a home and away knockout format, where the remaining four (4) nations will be eligible to join the 44 nations that will be involved in the group phase of the qualifiers.
During this qualifying phase, the four lowest-ranked countries will play first at home, with the second leg to be played by the highest-ranked opposing country.
The home and away qualifying matches are scheduled to take place during the next FIFA international break, between March 20 and 26, 2024.
TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Preliminary draw results:
M1 and 2 | Somalia vs Essuatíni
M3 and 4 | São Tomé vs South Sudan
M5 and 6 | Chad vs Mauritius
M7 and 8 | Djibouti vs Liberia
Mauritius
Of the four ties to be played in the preliminary round, this is the closest from a ranking point of view, with Chad currently ranked 181st in the world and Mauritius 177th, according to FIFA.
Mauritius will begin their journey here to reach the African Cup of Nations for the second time, having taken part in the continental competition in 1974, when they finished bottom of their group with three defeats in three games.
However, although the rankings between the two teams are close, Les Dodos are the more likely to progress to the next round, having played many more matches together in recent times.
Recent form also favors the Mauritians, as they drew 0-0 with Angola in their last World Cup qualifier last November and also beat Kenya (1-0) and Pakistan (3-0) last year.
Chad:
Having only joined FIFA and CAF in 1988, Chad was a relatively unknown soccer entity until the 1990s and never qualified for the World Cup or the finals of the African Cup of Nations.
Les Sao's history in the AFCON has been tumultuous. In 2017, the team was forced to withdraw from the competition due to financial problems and was subsequently banned from participating in the following edition as well. Then, during qualification in 2021, Chad was disqualified due to government interference.
This year's qualification campaign got off to the worst possible start again for coach Kevin Nicaise and company, as they were forced to cancel their first training session due to their bus running out of fuel, which made it impossible for the team to travel from base camp to the training center.
Chad played only three matches in the whole of 2023 and lost all of them, two of which were World Cup qualifiers. They are currently on a five-game losing streak and have not won a competitive match since October 2019 against Liberia on penalties.
