Zhang's outburst

Zhang's outburst is undeniably understandable. China's last victory in a soccer match came on November 16, 2023. On that occasion, the Chinese beat Thailand 2-1. The match was also a qualifier.

Since then, the Chinese have played seven matches without a win, most notably in the Asian Cup, where they drew two and lost one, finishing the group stage in third place without scoring a goal.

Finally, the Chinese press reported that Zhang's wife shared a text message conversation they had after the match, in which he allegedly said: "I really feel I can't do any more than this. Every day I try my hardest, but I can't accept this result."

Linpeng Zhang

The full-back and captain of the Chinese national soccer team has said that he will no longer play for the team. On Thursday (21), after the 2-2 draw away to Singapore, Linpeng Zhang announced his decision at a press conference. The match was part of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

In short, the Chinese let a two-goal lead slip and allowed Singapore to draw level. Disappointed, Linpeng Zhang expressed his frustration at the situation of the team he represents.

"I've thought about this for a long time. I think it's time to end my career with the national team. Not even beating the Singapore team is unacceptable and humiliating," said the 34-year-old Chinese defender.

China

China will be looking to avoid distancing themselves from South Korea at the top of the table. The South Koreans, led by Heung-min Son, have seven points so far and are still unbeaten, three more than the Chinese's four. In between them is Thailand, also on four, with a better goal difference than China.
