unauthorized interview by Kokçu

At a press conference on Saturday after training, Roger Schmidt, who at the time was still unaware of the content of the interview, said that he would make decisions.

Kokçu accused Schmidt of holding him back with too many defensive tasks. And that, as a result, he still hasn't managed to show all the quality that led him to be voted the best player in the Dutch league last season.

The unauthorized interview deeply displeased Benfica's professional soccer structure. It is now known that Kokçu will not be included in the squad for this Sunday's match, nor will he escape a fine, in accordance with the club's internal regulations.

Kokçu out

Orkun Kokçu hasn't been called up for this afternoon's match against Casa Pia, on the 26th matchday of the league season.

The Turkish international midfielder complained in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he had never felt important since arriving in Luz, despite being Benfica's biggest ever signing, having paid €25 million to Feyenoord last summer

Benfica

Unable to advance in the Champions League and relegated to the Europa League, Benfica had to work hard but survived in the battle for the title by beating Scottish side Rangers 1-0 in Glasgow on Thursday, March 14. In the first leg, they had been down, but fought back to draw 2-2. They will now face Olympique de Marseille in France.

Although winning a continental tournament is an ambition, Benfica can't take their foot off the gas in the Portuguese league. On Sunday, March 10, at home, they confirmed their favoritism against Estoril by winning 3-1. The team now have 61 points (19 wins, four draws and two defeats). They are in second place in the Portuguese league. One point behind Sporting, who have a game in hand.

Casa Pia

After two wins and a draw, Casa Pia were left empty-handed in their match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday, March 8. Facing a team that came up from the Second Division last season and adopted a more aggressive stance in their attempt to stay out of the relegation zone, they were beaten 3-1.

The possibility of relegation cannot be ruled out for the time being by Casa Pia. However, their situation is far from hopeless. With 27 points (seven wins, six draws and 12 defeats), they occupy eleventh place in Liga Portugal when the tie-breaking criteria are taken into account. They have five points more than Estoril, in sixteenth - antepenultimate - place and the first club in the Z3.

Guess

In their second season in the top flight since gaining their unprecedented access, Casa Pia are just trying to avoid a return to Liga Portugal 2. They are close to achieving their goal. It has established a relatively good lead compared to the relegation zone and is now looking to pick up the remaining points to scare off the ghost of relegation. Benfica, on the other hand, are still aiming for the title. At a disadvantage in the battle with Sporting for top spot, they have no room for slip-ups. However, they have a much more depleted squad. This makes a draw the recommendation for this Sunday's matchday 26 of the Portuguese League.

Unable to play in their cramped stadium, Casa Pia opted for the city as their venue. The ball is expected to start rolling at 3pm (Brasília time).

Roger Schimidt

Do you feel that there is a different view between the coach and the Benfica fans about the way the season is going? At the end of the game with Rangers, there was again some dispute...

"I can't observe everything and I don't want to. I said that a few weeks ago. When you coach Benfica, criticism is there. It's almost impossible not to. What I do recognize is that there's also a lot of support for our team and I'm part of the Benfica team. I'm not important, what's important is Benfica. I try to be completely focused on the team. I want to win titles and I know that when we do, the fans are happy.”

On the table!

The 34 points that separate the two Lisbon teams in the table (61 for the Eagles and 27 for the Geese) are reflected above all in their attack. With just 23 goals scored, Benfica's next opponents have the worst attack in the league, while Roger Schmidt's side have 59.

One of the parameters presented by the Wyscout platform that helps explain this gap is shots. With 392 shots (43.6% of them on frame), Benfica lead the pack of teams competing in the Betclic League, while Casa Pia have just 236 (34.7% on frame), the second worst record in the competition.

The Geese also occupy the last position in the ranking of ball touches in opposition areas: 274 compared to 652 for the Reds.

Benfica:

In contrast, Benfica occupy 2nd place in the table, with a record of 19 wins, 4 draws and just 2 defeats. They have a powerful attack, having scored 59 goals, while their defense is solid with only 21 goals conceded.

In their last few away games, Benfica have shown their strength. They won 3-1 against Estoril Praia, drew 2-2 with Glasgow Rangers in the Europa League and suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat against Porto. In their last 5 games, Benfica have won 2, drawn 1 and lost 2, scoring 7 goals and conceding 10. Both teams have scored in 3 games, and there have been 4 games with more than 2.5 goals and 1 with less.

Benfica, under the leadership of Roger Schmidt, are determined to defend their Primeira Liga title. With the return of Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi after suspension, Benfica look set to take advantage of Casa Pia's shaky defense.

Casa Pia

Casa Pia, currently sitting in 11th place in the Portuguese league, have seen their performance fluctuate between highs and lows this season. With a total of 7 wins, 6 draws and 12 defeats, the team has struggled to find consistency in its play. In terms of goals, the team has scored 23 and conceded 38.

In their last few home games, Casa Pia have had mixed results. They faced Estrela Amadora and lost 3-1, then drew 0-0 with Gil Vicente, and managed an important win against Vitória, 2-0.

In their last 5 games, Casa Pia have had mixed results: 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats, scoring 4 goals and conceding 4. Only in 1 game did both teams score, while in 4 games they didn't. In the Over/Under market of 2.5 goals, only 1 had more than 2.5 goals and 4 fewer.

TIME AND PLACE!

This Saturday afternoon (4), Benfica vs Casa Pia takes place at 3pm (Brasília time) at Estádio da Luz, in the 19th round of the Portuguese Championship 2024/23. So check out the best predictions for this match between the competition leaders, which will be broadcast live on ESPN 2 and Star+.

In short, Benfica have been able to win by building on their results from the first leg. That's because the team has emerged victorious from the first 45 minutes in all three of its wins in a row. So the first good bet is for that to happen again.

In addition, Benfica will be without their top scorer Gonçalo Ramos, but they do have a Brazilian back. David Neres started against Arouca and provided one assist, but he has a great ability to score goals and is one of Benfica fans' many hopes of finding the net. So Neres is a great choice to score at any time.
