Another Belmont Stakes contender has been ruled out of the race. On Sunday morning, Intense Holiday worked out with fellow stablemate Commissioner, but he was soon taken away in an equine ambulance with a condylar fracture of the right front leg. He underwent surgery on Sunday morning to repair the fracture. The injury is not life-threatening, nor is it career threatening.

Commissioner and Intense Holiday worked out as a pair for trainer Todd Pletcher. The official workout for both horses was listed as five furlongs covered in 1:00.77. Shortly after the workout exercise rider Patti Krotenko got off Intense Holiday and he was walked into the equine ambulance.

Despite the unfortunate incident with Intense Holiday, there were plenty of other workouts by fellow Belmont Stakes entrants.

Wicked Strong, the 4th place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, worked one mile over the training track for trainer James Jerkens. He was the only horse who worked at the mile distance on the training track and was timed in 1:39.59. Samraat, the 5th place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, worked one mile on the Belmont main track in 1:41.28. Samraat was the only horse who worked one mile on the main track.

Peter Pan winner Tonalist breezed five furlongs in 1:01.66 for Christophe Clement. The workout ranked as 19 fastest of 28 at the five furlong distance.

A Belmont Stakes update would not be complete without mentioning the possible Triple Crown Winner California Chrome. The Derby and Preakness winner finally got a main track to gallop over. He galloped two miles on the main track. Preakness runner up Ride On Curlin galloped a mile and a half on the main track.

With the removal of Intense Holiday from the Belmont Stakes possible entrants, a field of 11 is under consideration as of Sunday morning.
