When the season started everyone expected things to be different for the Toronto Blue Jays, especially because all of their home games were moved to Buffalo, New York. Still, the team focused in one goal and now they have achieved it. 

The Canadians defeated defeated the Yankees 4-1 in the four-game series finale to clinch their spot in the postseason for the first time since 2016. 

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s solo home run and Bo Bichette's and Alejandro Kirk's RBI doubles paced Toronto's offense, and Hyun-Jin Ryu threw seven shutout innings for the win.

Ryu (5-2) received five hits, walked two and struck out four. Luke Voit and Aaron Hicks hit back-to-back singles to begin the sixth but Ryu struck out Giancarlo Stanton, got Gleyber Torres to fly out, and retired Gio Urshela on a groundball.

Making the postseason in this shortened 60-game season was not an easy task for Charlie Montoyo, as his team played multiple times the  Tampa Bay Rays (37-20) and New York Yankees (32-25) in the strong American League East. 

While the Rays clinched the AL East, the Blue Jays, who are two games behind the Yankees for second, can still jump New York in the standings with three games left. Toronto will host the Baltimore Orioles in the final series of the regular season.

“I’m just so proud of my club and everything we’ve gone through all year,” second-year manager Charlie Montoyo said. “They never complained. They had their mind set on getting to this moment right now.”
