The rest of the day
This is how all of Matchday 46 will be played, the last of a great 2023-2024 EFL Championship season, which will surely remain in the minds of many fans for this great closure.
All matches will be played at the same time in a few minutes.
Players report
Oliver Burke and Alfie Chang are the only absentees for Birmingham. The latter, returned to on-court training this week for the first time since mid-August.
Norwich City lineup
This is the lineup presented by David Wagner in this last EFL Championship matchday. Jacob Lungi starts as a starter, while Dimitrios Giannnoulis comes back and will be on the bench.
Birmingham City lineup
These are the eleven players that Gary Rowett has selected as he looks to maintain his team's status in the second tier of English soccer.
Last confrontation
The Blues ended the month of September with a defeat against Norwich at Carrow Road. Two early goals at the start of the second half gave the home side the win. Gabriel Sara and Jonathan Rowe scored the goals in the first leg.
Rowett's statements
Birmingham City interim manager Gary Rowett spoke ahead of the game. The blue tactician is excited and calm that they have a chance to stay:
"I'm feeling pretty calm, I'm feeling pretty excited about the game. You want to be in these kind of important games, maybe not at the bottom of the table, but, still, you know the atmosphere is going to be electric.
"We have an opportunity to step up. We've had that opportunity in recent weeks, but it hasn't quite worked out the way we wanted it to, so we've got one more roll of the dice," the coach said.
What does Norwich need to do to play in the playoffs?
They are in fifth place
- They depend on themselves, if they win at Birmingham they would secure their place in the top 6.
- They could also qualify if they do not win and West Brom or Hull City do not win their matches.
With any of the above results they stay in the top6.
What does Birmingham need to save itself?
They are in second to last place.
- They need to win and Plymouth not to beat Hull City.
- Win and Blackburn lose
- Win and Sheffield Wed loses
Any of the above three combinations gives the Blues relegation.

- Norwich City: Gunn; Stacey, Duffy, Gibson, McCallum; Nunez, McClean, Fassnacht, Sara, Sainz; Sargent
They are back
Derby Country signed their return to the Championship after two seasons of absence. Derby Country became the second team to be promoted to the Championship; Portsmouth was the first and now we expect the third.
Barnsley vs Bolton and Oxford United vs Peterborough are the playoff crossings to define the third member of the English second division for the 2024-2025 season.
How does Norwich arrive?
The Canaries are coming off a 2-2 draw with Swansea, have five consecutive matches without defeat and have taken fifth place from West Bromwich in recent games; three points clear of seventh-placed Hull City, Norwich have 73 points and will compete in the playoffs for a place in the Premiership.
How does Birmingham City arrive?
The Blues are coming from a visit to Huddersfield. A win was in their interest to stay in the last matchday and not depend on themselves; to their misfortune they didn't get it.
Koji Miyoshi gave the Birmingham side the lead going into the break, but Rhys Healey gave the home side, who also needed a win, a glimmer of hope.
Gary Rowett's side must now win and depend on a defeat for Blackburn, Sheffield Wed or even a draw for Plymouth.
The last of the season
We are at the end of the season of an exciting EFL Championship that closes the curtain with Matchday 46; the same in which the promotions to the Premier League, playoffs and one relegation to League One are defined. Leicester City is back in the Premier League, but the next two are still to be decided; Ipswich Town is very close to return; Leeds, Southampton, Norwich and West Brom are fighting for the last ticket for promotion.
On the other hand, Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth and Birmingham are fighting not to be the last team to be relegated.
